After in-depth research and demonstration, the State Grid Corporation of China decided to start the ±1100 kV UHV direct current operation. On January 26, the company held a start-up mobilization meeting in Beijing, and made a comprehensive deployment and mobilization to go all out to promote the ±1100 kV UHV DC work.
The meeting proposed to strive to basically complete the key technology research in one and a half years and determine the main technical scheme of the project; to break through the technical problems of key equipment and complete the development of model prototypes within 2 years; to complete the ±1100 kV UHV DC demonstration project within 5 years.

With the westward shift of my country's energy strategy, the state will further intensify the development of energy resources in Xinjiang, Tibet and other western regions. These large-scale energy bases are more than 2,400 kilometers away from the load center in the central and eastern regions, and there is an urgent need to develop and apply UHV DC transmission technology with higher voltage levels.
In 2009, the State Grid Corporation of China fully launched the key technology research of UHV DC transmission technology of ±1000 kV and above. In 2010, the company organized relevant scientific research, design units and equipment manufacturers to conduct in-depth research and demonstration on ±1000 kV and above UHV DC transmission technology, completed the conceptual design, and proposed a recommended voltage level scheme. On December 17, the company's party group held a special meeting to study and determine the voltage level of ±1100 kV.
Shu Yinbiao emphasized that all relevant units should fully realize that the development of ±1100 kV UHV DC transmission technology already has a good technical foundation, talent foundation and spiritual foundation; they must fully understand the difficulties faced in the development of ±1100 kV UHV DC transmission technology, the key Do a good job in key technology research and key equipment development. He said that all units should scientifically and effectively promote the work related to ±1100 kV UHV DC, establish a special organization as soon as possible in accordance with the requirements of the meeting, implement responsibilities, ensure resource input, and go all out to carry out the work.
